About The Owners: The History of Personal Touch Landscape & Gardening

Ever since she was seven years old, Joanne Goodner has been cultivating a passion for gardening. Joanne grew up with her family in the small town of Highland Mills in upstate New York. As the third of seven children, Joanne valued the time she was able to spend with both of her parents. Some of her fondest memories were gardening with her mother and doing yard work with her father as a child.

At the age of seven, Joanne took an interest in helping her mother with garden duty, which blossomed into a love of plants and plant care. In no time, her mother created a garden just for Joanne to tend to and call her own. She quickly took pride in the garden she created, and was awestruck by the beautiful flowers that came from her hard work. Joanne continued to take care of her garden through her teenage years. As she got older, she participated in more difficult yard projects with her father, such as the installation of a flagstone patio. With such a big family at home, Joanne cherished bonding with her parents through gardening and landscaping, no matter hard the work. Her love of family and the pleasure she took from plant care paved the away for a successful career in the green industry.

At the age of 20, Joanne embarked on a solo journey to Colorado, where she always yearned to experience and live in the mountains. She bought a 1979 Honda Civic, packed what belongings she could fit inside, and hit the road! She continued west to Divide where she settled for a while, then moved into a bungalow in Manitou Springs, before finally making Colorado Springs her permanent home.

Joanne quickly began her career as a greenhouse assistant. Through connections made working at the greenhouse, Joanne seized an opportunity to become a personal gardener for the Maytag Estate in the Broadmoor. Her expertise and attention to detail was noticed around the neighborhood and led to even more opportunities as an estate gardener. Once her gardening clients became too much work for her one-woman-show, Joanne put out her first ad in the Divide Newspaper. Joanne hired an additional gardener to work alongside her and together they cultivated a lasting friendship.

In 1989, out of the back of a truck, Personal Touch Landscape & Gardening was born. Joanne’s personal gardening business grew more and more each year, prompting the need for a landscape division. Joanne’s husband Bill took on landscape installation, and the company has since grown into it’s newest and largest location at 2200 Bott Avenue, on the Westside of Colorado Springs. Today, after fast-paced growth and an ever-expanding client base, Personal Touch is one of Colorado Springs’ premier Landscape and Gardening companies, serving high-end residential properties in the Pikes Peak Region.

Personal Touch stands out from other conventional landscaping companies due to the staff’s dedicated attention to each client’s particular needs and desires.
