Winter Renewal Pruning for a Healthier Spring!

Winter Renewal Pruning for a Healthier Spring!

Rejuvenate Your Shrubs With Winter Renewal Pruning!

Winter Renewal PruningWinter is the best time to prune certain trees and shrubs for renewed, vigorous Spring growth. Many common woody landscape shrubs, some fruit trees, and rose bushes can benefit from Winter renewal pruning.

When pruning, it’s important to have proper timing! Winter renewal pruning is done in late winter when shrubs are dormant, preventing damage to new growth caused by cold temperatures. This also minimizes your chances of disease getting into the cuts and causing plant illness.

Shrub needing Winter renewal pruning. Prune at the base. You’ll want to remove up to 1/3rd of the shrub’s older, overgrown stems and canes at the base of the plant. While pruning, try to maintain a good good shape so your shrub looks nice and healthy in Sprung. This also allows the new shoots and branches to fill in the skeleton for a shapely, manicured shrub!
